LIFE is the European Union\u2019s financial instrument<\/strong> supporting nature conservation, climate action, and the transition to a sustainable economy. Since its launch in 1992, the LIFE Programme has supported over 5,500 projects across Europe aimed at improving the environment and quality of life.<\/p>

History and Importance of the Programme<\/strong>
The idea behind the LIFE Programme emerged in the late 1980s in response to growing public concern about environmental threats \u2013 from pollution and biodiversity loss to climate change. It builds on earlier EU initiatives, such as the Birds Directive (1979) and the creation of Natura 2000, the largest network of protected areas in Europe.<\/p>

Main Goals of the Programme<\/strong>
The LIFE Programme helps the European Union:<\/p>

  • Achieve climate neutrality by 2050<\/li>
  • Protect and restore nature and halt biodiversity loss<\/li>
  • Improve quality of life and safeguard public health from environmental hazards<\/li><\/ul>

    Specific Objectives<\/strong>
    The programme supports:<\/p>

    • Development and testing of innovative solutions for nature conservation and climate protection<\/li>
    • Strengthening the capacities of public and private institutions in environmental management<\/li>
    • Sharing best practices, replicating successful projects, and improving access to financing<\/li><\/ul>

      Programme Structure<\/strong>
      LIFE is divided into two main areas:<\/p>

      1. Environment<\/strong><\/p>

      • Nature and Biodiversity<\/li>
      • Circular Economy and Quality of Life<\/li><\/ul>

        2. Climate Action<\/strong><\/p>

        • Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation<\/li>
        • Clean Energy Transition<\/li><\/ul>

          For the 2021\u20132027 period, the programme has a budget of \u20ac5.45 billion, which is a 60% increase compared to the previous period.<\/p>

          Who Can Apply?<\/strong>
          Eligible applicants include:<\/p>

          • Public and private legal entities from EU countries and associated third countries<\/li>
          • Organisations established under EU law or international organisations<\/li><\/ul>

            Individuals are not eligible<\/strong>, though in exceptional cases, entities from non-EU countries may participate if essential for the project\u2019s success.<\/p>

            LIFE in the Czech Republic<\/strong>
            The Czech Republic has participated in the LIFE Programme since 2004. Since then, dozens of projects worth hundreds of millions of Czech crowns have been implemented. Successful applicants include public authorities, NGOs, academic institutions, and private entities.<\/p>

            Currently, Czech organisations are involved in more than 60 projects, including 5 integrated projects. Main beneficiaries often include:<\/p>

            • Non-governmental organisations<\/li>
            • Nature protection authorities<\/li>
            • Academic institutions<\/li><\/ul>

              Support for Applicants in the Czech Republic<\/strong>
              The Ministry of the Environment (MoE) provides support through the National LIFE Contact Point, which:<\/p>

              • Organises seminars and presentations<\/li>
              • Offers personal consultations and expert advice<\/li>
              • Provides financial support for the national co-financing of approved projects<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
